What's Telonu?
Telonu is a cool, powerful, rock-your-world online community where you can tell one and all about the really important stuff. Read and write 'Tells' (reviews) on your office, your school, the people there and everything else. You can post 'tells' in several ways: anonymously, with a nickname, or under your user name (first name, last initial). You can also mingle with other 'Tellers' and ask questions about organizations and people that you need to know about. We call these questions 'Asks.'
Is Telonu free?
Of course it is. This is why the Internet exists: so we can easily share our experiences and inside dope with everyone else. Why pay for that?
Why should I use Telonu?
Because it's the easiest and fastest way to learn about what a school, or a company, or a teacher, or a manager, or a class (and lots of other stuff) is really like. Telonu's got 'tells' from people who have been there, done that.
What can one do on Telonu?
Plenty. Telonu helps you critique, rate and research the workplace (companies, nonprofits and government organizations, from tiny startups to multinational conglomerates, and all the people who work there, as well as what we call 'eduplace' (universities, high schools, professors, classes). And because it's not all about work, Telonu is also an easy place to toast, boast and roast celebrities, athletes and politicians.
On Telonu you can:
- Praise or bury your company or school
- Add and prop up companies, schools and people for other Telonu members' comments and opinions
- Follow anything or anyone in real time
- Mingle with old friends and make new ones
- Use the Ask section to quiz the Telonu community about anything
Who uses Telonu?
Everyone. People tell (and ask) on Telonu because they want to:
- Know about a company before taking a job there
- Know about people before working for them, hiring them or building relationships
- Get inside information about schools, instructors and courses before applying, registering or attending
- Hang out with pals and chat about the latest celebrity, athlete and politician story
- Get crucial tips before interviewing at a particular company
- Scope out competitors before starting a new business
- Spread the word about a new enterprise
- And a whole lot more …
Who can see my reviews?
Everyone on Telonu can see your 'tells.' That's why for each posting you decide whether you stay anonymous, or use a nickname or stick with your username (first name, last initial). You can post 'tells' anonymously, if you want. Of course, it's more fun to use a nickname so others can follow your tells! Remember, we never show your full name. So go ahead tell, have fun. We've got your back.
Registration and Account Information
How do I sign up for Telonu?
All you need is a minute. On the homepage you'll find 'Sign Up' links at the top and bottom. Just click, enter your full name, email address, a password and little security info on the registration screen that pops up. When you're done, we'll email you an activation link. Click and you're in.
An error message is asking for my full name. Do I have to give it?
Yes. But we guarantee your full name will not show up on any of your posts. You can tell anonymously, with your user name (first name and last initial) or a nickname.
When I tried to register, an error message said my email address is invalid. What's the deal?
You will need to enter your complete email address, for example: johnsmith@hotmail.com. If the software doesn't recognize it, you get an error message.
I finished registering but haven't received the confirmation email. What's the problem?
- Did you give us a valid email address? We need this to confirm that you're not a 'bot' that will spam our community. We hate spam.
- Check your email spam or junk folder. Sometimes the security software gets it wrong. (We know, it's hard to believe.)
- Some emails get blocked by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). They get a little overzealous sometimes.
- If you're still having trouble, please email us at registration@telonu.com using the email address that you entered when you registered.
My browser shows 'Invalid link' when I click on the activation link in the confirmation email from Telonu.
- Please check to see if there are spaces within the link. If there are, please remove them and click on the link again. Hint: You have to click reply first to edit the link.
- If that doesn't work, please copy and paste the full link you received in the email into your browser. Sometimes links get broken in the email and don't work as they should.
- If you're still having trouble, please email us at registration@telonu.com.
I've already entered my full name to register. Why do I need a nickname?
Trust us, you want an alias option. Remember, Telonu lets you post anonymously, with your user name (first name, last initial), or a nickname.
I Forgot My Password!
We know, passwords can be a pain. If you've forgotten yours, don't worry. On the homepage, click 'Forgot Password?' and enter your user id (email address). We will send you an email with instructions on how to reset your password.
How do I change my account information?
To edit your profile or change your account preferences, go to the 'My Eyes Only' page and click on 'My Settings'.
Search
How do I find a particular company?
Definitely. You can search for a company, school, person, brand etc. etc. Just use the 'Search' box at the top of each page
Telling (Writing Reviews)
What's a Tell?
A tell is a review, rating, or observation that you post on Telonu. You can 'tell' on companies, organizations, universities, schools, bosses, co-workers, friends, teachers, classmates, and a whole lot else. It can be a toast (a good review), a boast (how awesome something or someone is), a roast (a bad review) or just a diagnosis (a sincere analysis of the company or person).
Other than companies and managers, what else can I review and rate on Telonu?
Besides workplaces such as companies, non-profits and managers within them, you can also rate and review what we call the 'eduplace,' universities, high schools and instructors there. You can also tell on brands and famous people on Telonu. Just find your voice and let fly.
What/Who can I tell on?
That's really up to you. For example, you can tell on a company as an employee (or ex-employee), as a partner, or as a customer. You can talk about your boss or your co-worker, or a teacher or a particular class.
How do I find a company/school/person to tell on?
Easy. Search for a company, school, or person that you want to tell on. We've built an extensive catalog of more than one and a half million organizations (companies, non-profits, universities, schools etc.) On the people side, we already have the names and titles of hundreds of thousands of executives and educators, and we're adding thousands more every day (with your help, of course.) But we know it's a work in progress.
If you find what you're looking for, go to the detail page and click on the 'Tell' button. If you don't find what you are looking for, and for now you may not find your boss(unless he/she is a Fortune 1000 CEO or bigwig) just click 'Add New', plug in a few pieces of info and be the first to tell!
Adding Organizations or Individuals
I have started a new company and want to add it to Telonu's site so that others can review and rate it. Is it possible to do this?
Of course, but first please take a look to see if it's already there. If not, click on 'Add New' on the search results page.
Is it possible to add a boss, professor, teacher on Telonu and ask questions related to them?
Sure, but first do a quick search. If the person isn't listed, click 'Add New' on the search results page, create a new info box and be the first to tell!
How do I write a Tell (review)?
It's so easy. Click the 'Tell' button, choose your identity (nickname, user name or anonymous), select your relationship and you can write in your comments and fill in your ratings. You can then click the 'Preview' button and 'Edit' your comments, or post directly. You can even 'Sleep on it' if you want to; you'll find the option to post later on the 'My Eyes Only' page.
Why does Telonu give me 3 identity options every time I want to tell?
It's about choice. You might want to be anonymous on some posts (roasting your boss or professor) and use a nickname or username on others (which are more complementary). However, in all cases, we never show your full name.
What if I had a bad experience? Can I say something negative?
You bet. You can write as many not-so-positive tells (or roasts) as you want, But we do ask that you watch your language. Yes, stay anonymous, but keep it (mostly) clean, okay?
Can I tell without going into the organization's or person's detail page?
Yes. Just go to the Tell tab, search for the institution's or individual's name, and click on the 'Tell' button.
Can I search all the existing Tells on a company for a particular keyword?
Sure. You can search within all the tells on any company for, say, salary details just by going to the detail page of that company, selecting the Tell tab and entering the keyword 'salary' in the search box.
Where can I see a complete list of all the Tells I have posted?
A complete log/diary of your activities on Telonu is on the 'My Eyes Only 'page under 'My Activities.' Your tells under each identity (user name, nickname or anonymous) are grouped separately.
Can I follow activities on specific companies, schools, and people?
Yep. Click the 'Follow it' link on anything or anyone. Whenever other members tell or ask, you will be notified.
What’s a ‘Watercooler?’
Just like in the real world, a 'watercooler' is a tell about workplace and school gossip, stuff we usually whisper. Watercooler is also called Whiteboard, Chalkboard, Dining Hall, Hallway and Cafeteria, depending on whether the tell is about an office or a school. We know how things work, so all watercooler postings automatically default to 'anonymous.' We only ask that you enter a topic and your relationship.
How do I post my comments on the Watercooler?
Just search for the company, school, or person. Click on the results to view the detail page and you'll see the 'Watercooler' button. Click on it, select the relationship and write your watercooler comment. You can preview it or post right away. Your watercooler will be posted on the detail page of that company or person.
Can I search all the existing Watercoolers on a company for a particular keyword?
Sure. You can search within all the Watercoolers on any company for, say, holiday party just by going to the detail page of that company, selecting the Watercooler tab and entering the keyword 'holiday party' in the search box. Telonu will bring up the results: all the watercoolers that have the keyword holiday party in them.
Where can I see a complete list of all the Watercooler-type comments I've posted
A complete log/diary of your watercooler comments on Telonu are on available on the 'My Eyes Only' page under 'My Activities.'
What's 'Stock' and 'Stock Talk?'
This is the money section, feedback on companies' stock price trends. You can give your recommendation on whether to buy, sell, hold (or burn the certificates of stock of any publicly listed company!) by voting and sharing insights and analysis supporting your recommendations.
How do I recommend a stock and talk about it?
Just search for a company, click on the result and go to the company's detail page. Here you will see a button labeled 'Stock.' After clicking on that button, you will see a pop-up screen that asks you for a topic, your recommendation to buy, sell or hold and a place to write your insights/analysis.
How do I find the organizations/people most 'told on' at Telonu?
Just click on the 'Read Tells' tab to view the companies, schools, executives, educators, brands that other members have recently told on the most.
Asks
What’s an ‘Ask?’
This is a question posted by a member. We do suggest you stay relevant to the site's core focus of workplace and schools, and the people within them.
How do I Ask?
Just click on the 'Ask' button on a company's, school's or person's detail page. In the popup screen, enter the topic and post your question. When you post it, it appears in the 'Asks' tab of the detail page. Your Ask also appears on the main Ask page. Other members reviewing these sections can now answer your question.
Who can I Ask? Can I Ask other members?
That's what Telonu is all about. While posting your Ask, you'll see a link that lets direct your ask at specific groups. You can select from your list of friends, but you can also ask others who have previously told on that company or individual, so that you get answers from people in the know.
You can also ask a member a question directly by clicking on the 'Ask Me' button on the member's profile page. That member doesn't have to be your friend.
How do I know when someone has answered my Ask?
On the Ask popup screen, select the option 'Notify me . . .' When other members answer your question, you will be notified by email. If you do not select that option, you can always view answers to your Asks on the 'My Eyes Only' page under 'My Activities.'
How do I find Asks?
Asks specific to company, school or person, are on the company, school or person's detail page.
Your own Asks can be found under the 'My Activities' tab on the under 'My Eyes Only' page.
You can also go to the 'Ask' page and search for specific Asks by keywords.
Can I post an Ask using my nickname or anonymously?
Definitely. You can always post Asks anonymously, with your user name (first name, last initial) or with a nickname.
How do I Answer an Ask?
Just by clicking on the 'Answer' button.

Mingle
What's Mingle?
This is social networking Telonu-style. Use the features in the Mingle section to connect, share information and network with friends and co-workers.
Can I view my activities on Telonu?
Any time you want. Go to 'Mingle' tab, click on 'My Eyes Only' and you'll see the 'My Activities' tab. This is your log, your diary. It has all the Tells, Asks, Stocks Talks, and Watercoolers that you posted on Telonu.
What’s ‘My Eyes Only?’
This is your private corner on Telonu--your log, your diary. Here you have access to all your Telonu postings – your activities, pending actions, personal communication with other members, and more. Only you can see this page and its content.
Who can see my name on Telonu?
No one. We never show your full name on any postings at Telonu. We only display what we call user name (first name, last initial), and that too only when you specifically choose that option. For each posting you can choose to use your user name, or nickname, or remain anonymous. However, when you invite people to join Telonu, they will see who it's from.
Why are there 2 profiles, Name Profile and Nick Profile? What gets posted here?
We have built two profiles, one with user name and another with nick name. These pages show 'Tells' and 'Asks' posted using that name. Each profile has its own Friends list and photo. The two profiles help you keep your postings and activities (under each identity) separate from each other.
And of course, your anonymous postings are only logged in 'My Eyes Only,' which no one else can see. Isn't that cool? Your privacy is important to us.
Can others see both my Name and Nick profiles?
Only Telonu members can see these profiles and these pages. To see what others see, click the 'As Others See' link next to your photo. Note, the Publish/Unpublish & other links are only available in your 'Personal View.' To switch back to your view, click on the 'Personal View' link.
Is it possible to not show some of my 'Tells' and 'Asks' I posted under my User name or Nickname on my profile pages?
Sure. If you don't want to show any particular Tells or Asks that you have entered under your user name or nickname, you can do so simply by clicking the 'Unpublish' link (on your profile pages) next to a tell or ask. If you change your mind and want to share a tell or ask on a profile page, simply click the 'Publish' link on 'The My Eyes Only' page next to that Tell or Ask.
What is a 'Fan' on Telonu?
These are your fans! They like your postings so much that they have added you as a favorite teller by clicking the 'Follow Me' link on your profile. This way they can stay up to date on your postings. (Note: Your user name and your nickname profiles will have different fans.) Don't worry, there's no risk of stalking—your fans can only see your postings under your nickname, or your user name. Your anonymous tells, of course never point back to you.
Can I see who my fans are?
Yes you can. Go to your particular profile page and you'll find the fan following for that profile. And again, for those with stalker concerns, a fan cannot communicate with you unless he or she becomes your friend.
Connecting with Friends
Can I network with my friends and social circles on Telonu?

If they accept your invitation, they'll also automatically appear on your Telonu friends list.
How can I find out if my friends and colleagues are already on Telonu?
You could ask them the old-fashioned way, but using the 'Friend Finder' option under the 'Mingle' tab is much faster. Just enter your friend's name and Telonu will show you the list of Tellers with that name. You can then connect with them and share information.
Can I see what my friends are doing on Telonu?
Let your voyeuristic tendencies run free. Go to the 'Network' page and then 'My Eyes Only,' scroll down to the 'My Friends' Activities' tab and you'll find all your group's activities - Tells, Asks, Answers, etc. But no, you won't find their anonymous tells, and they won't find yours. We like privacy, remember?
How do I keep track of all the companies, schools, and people I am following?
You can see the complete list of organizations and people you are following under the 'I am Following' tab on the 'My Eyes Only' page. Note: You can make these followings public or private. You can also use the 'Un-follow' option to stop monitoring.
My friends have asked me to join their network. How do I do this?
Hey, do whatever you want to do. The choice is yours. Go to 'Mingle,' click on the 'Network' tab, then go to the 'Friend's Requests Received.'. You can instantly accept or decline requests.
Can I send a message to my friend?
Yes, you can easily send messages using your Telonu Inbox. These are private messages between you & your friends. You can send these messages from the Inbox on the 'My Eyes Only' page. You can reply to messages from your friends and also view Sent messages.
How can I add some of my friends into a particular group?
Telonu lets you herd (okay, guide) your friends into groups. You could go for a work, school or college group, a weekend group, even a don't-know-where-to-put-them group, etc. It's all on the Network page.
Is it possible to delete any group?
Like it never existed. Go to the 'Mingle' tab, click on 'Network,' go to the 'Groups' option and click on the X (Delete) link
If I delete any group, what will happen to my friends in that group? Will they also get deleted?
Enough: You don't have that kind of power. No, if you created a group, you can delete it. That's all. The group's members will be fine.
Can I remove anyone from my friend list?
It's your party, you can erase anyone you want to. Go to 'Mingle', select the 'Network' page and click on the 'Friends' link. When you see your friends list, just click the 'Delete' button in front of the name, and he or she will be deleted from your friends list.
