Telonu Reports 73 Percent Fewer US Layoffs in 2010 as Compared to 2009
New Reviews and Ratings Reflect an Improving Job and Workplace EnvironmentTelonu Layoff Tracker, at www.telonu.com, which aggregates and reports real-time company layoff data, reflects that 2010 layoffs are down by 73 percent from an average of 69,500 layoffs per month in 2009 to 19,000 per month in 2010. During the first four months of 2010, 76,400 layoffs were announced versus a staggering 517,755 layoffs for the same period last year.
Employee reviews and ratings on Telonu also indicate an improvement in the way companies are handling layoffs in 2010. In early 2009, only 12 percent of laid-off employees reported that their layoff experiences were handled fairly or better than fairly. In 2010, by comparison, 39 percent of laid-off employees report that their layoff experience is being handled in a positive manner. The better scores are based on ratings and reveal that layoffs are being handled less abruptly and severance packages are being enhanced.
Telonu is the only site that lets employees rate companies based on compensation, benefits, work environment, severance packages, outplacement and insurance support. The site features perspectives from employees about what it is really like to work for specific companies. Unlike other career sites, Telonu provides real time updates of news and blogs about each company.
"Our site is a good indicator of the upward trend that the employment market is beginning to experience," said David Bruggeman, vice president of marketing for Telonu. "What we are seeing this year, as opposed to 2009, is that more users are sharing their interview stories."

27 percent students rate their teachers as Hot!
Telonu.com, the leading social reviews & ratings site kicks off Valentine’s Day contestOverall analysis indicates that more students who contributed reviews and ratings were positive and wanted to express their liking for a teacher. “We believe students are gravitating to the site to express their liking for teachers and in particular the ones they think are hot”” said Raj Shukla, VP of Marketing at Telonu. Interestingly, the analysis found that the teachers who were rated higher on the Hot scale were also rated favorably on “Enjoys Teaching” and “Homework load” , but not as strongly on the “Mentors “ scale. “This leads us to conclude that the other ratings are correlated and a reflection of finding someone hot” continued Raj Shukla, “We also feel that there may be some hesitancy of getting mentoring help from teachers whom a students likes a lot.

88 Percent of Laid off Employees Rate their Layoff Experience as Poor
October 2008
Amidst the staggering layoffs and turbulent economy, 88 percent of laid off employees rate their layoff experiences as poor, 81 percent of those still employed believe job security is poor and 74 percent rate morale as poor, according to the latest data released by Telonu a new rating and review site for the workplace.
In data collected since October 2008, laid off employees' rate their experience of "how layoff was handled" at 1.9 out of 5.0, with 88 percent rating it as poor or very poor. Detailed written reviews accompanying the ratings at Telonu's layoff microsite (www.telonu.com/layoffs) attribute the low scores to the suddenness and impersonal nature of layoffs.
The good news from an employer's perspective, however, is that the laid off workers score "consider working here again" at an average 2.4, either attributing the layoffs to the overall economy or because of the severance packages and health insurance, which score an average 2.2, with a comparatively lower 72 percent rating them as poor or very poor. Outplacement support scored the least at 1.3 with 94 percent rating it as poor or very poor. The scale ranges from very poor and poor through fair to good and very good.
Telonu is the only site that lets laid off and employed workers rate the layoffs at their companies on variables such as how they were handled, severance package, insurance, outplacement support, morale, job security and whether they would consider working for the company again. More than 5000 employees have submitted their ratings on www.telonu.com since October 2008.
Reviews posted by those still employed indicate that 81 percent believe job security is poor and 74 percent rate morale of survivors as poor, with overall ratings of 2.1 and 2.2 respectively. Written reviews indicate that many currently employed are feeling overworked due to recent layoffs and are stressed that they may be next.
Telonu's free Layoff Tracker widget at www.telonu.com/widgets displays the number of jobs affected by company. Automatically updated in real time, it can be easily placed on any website or blog. Telonu Launches Layoff Tracker Widget & Layoff Talk Microsite
Telonu Inc., the site that lets you Rave, Rant and Rate™ your Workplace and the People there, introduced its Layoff Tracker Widget and Layoff Talk site to help people keep pace with the job market and stay on top of the latest pink slip announcements in these turbulent times.
The new widget lets anyone easily display as-it-happens layoff announcements on their blog or website using a simple copy and paste command. For each announcement, Layoff Tracker available at www.telonu.com displays the company, date of announcement, and number of affected jobs.
Viewers can click through to Telonu's Layoff Talk Microsite (www.telonu.com/layoffs) where they can read more details about a specific layoff, check out what others in the community have posted and write an anonymous (or not!) review to tell their story either linked to a company or in general. Layoff Talk offers unique insight into what insiders are saying about a company – from reviews to latest layoff rumors circulating around the water cooler to real stories from recent casualties of today's economy.
Layoffs and layoff anxiety have become a large part of today's work culture. Since the start of the recession in 2007, the total number of unemployment claims jumped to 2,394,434 (according the Bureau of Labor Statistics). And 2009 is off to a gloomy start. January 26 saw more than 75,000 more jobs shed at Caterpillar, Pfizer, Sprint Nextel, Home Depot, and more than seven other companies. Telonu's Widget and Microsite consolidate this information, allowing visitors to keep track of layoff related information.

Telonu – Real workplace information from the inside
Telonu Inc. today announced the beta launch of its free user generated content community website, www.telonu.com focused on the workplace. Users gain valuable insight to what insiders are saying about a company. In turn, they can share what's on their mind regarding the workplace, the people they work with and other important things in their lives, such as schools, brands purchased and even what's hot for lunch!
Telonu is designed with the user's needs in mind with an emphasis on privacy. For each review the user writes, they can choose their identity - whether they would like to be anonymous, use a nickname or a username. This feature results in a wide range of reviews - from very positive to somewhat critical providing a balanced perspective. It also helps build a community since 31% of consumers say that they add content to sites to be part of the community and 28% do it to gain recognition from peers. Today, many users prefer to get that recognition under a nickname. Telonu is the only social site that offers this unique feature.
The site also has a community based feedback system on each review where users can interact based on their choice. They can agree, disagree or rate the review as useful, cool or harsh. Additionally, they can write their comment on the review providing community feedback to the feedbacks themselves.
"The concept behind Telonu is simple and yet very timely. We have a generation of internet users growing up who read 15 reviews before spending $50 at a restaurant or at the movies," said Bari Abdul, CEO of Telonu. "They are actively looking for a service where they can find out what others are really thinking about at their current company where they spend in excess of 40 hours per week. This information becomes all the more crucial when people are in transition, looking for new companies to join, consult for or partner with."
In the short time that Telonu has been in beta, it has achieved a strong following with large companies via word of mouth indicating the underlying need for a "Yelp" for the business community. "In the short time that we have opened the service up, we have seen the nature of the micro-blogs reflect the times we are in, continued Abdul. "Earlier, the comments were a review of what's good or not so good about the companies' where Telonu members were working. However, in recent weeks we have seen postings and discussions about the layoffs, the anxiety they are causing at the workplace."
With millions of entities in the database, including a complete list of public and private companies, Telonu is easy to use taking less than a minute to write and post a review. With a simple query via the search bar you can be writing about your mean boss or your wonderful co-worker in seconds. Also, Telonu does not ask users to fill out forms or provide detailed information before writing reviews.
