Forced shutdowns

Latest on the layoff front -- info circirlig inside Aobe is that we are going to have a 1 week forced shut down this qyuarter in order to aviod layoffs -- and if the economy does not improve will continue this practice all year -- ie 1 week shut down each quarter -- it will put a lot of financial pressure on all of us -- but may be a better opttion than to layoff 10% of our employees.

Adobe layoffs

Got laid off -- was in Marketing - they acted like they did a good job with the process but still felt betrayed -- after giving so many years and so many late nights and weekends to Adobe.

The December layoffs hit pretty hard; few were expecting cuts that deep after being assured by Shantanu earlier in the fall that a headcount reduction would not happen until all other resources were exhausted.

Internal communication was very sparse and finding out who had been cut was difficult. This added to people's stress.

Most people seem to be expecting things to stay tight for at least the next 6 months. We're hopeful there will be no more cuts.

Survived

I really feel bad for the layoffs that have happened here and the ones that may be happening for the rest of this week (may be) -- but boy, do i feel relieved that I was not on that list. We just had a baby and bought a condo early Jan. Geez there is a lot of anx going around. I hope things get better soon.

You're pretty "lucky" but unwise. You managed to survive this shake down, but will you with the next shake down? A new baby and a new condo: are you living outside your means? I hope you have a one-year nest egg to survive. And I don't wish to hurt your feelings by asking this. Good luck.

Bad move on buying that condo. You should act like you are about to be laid off within two months and cut you spending now and keep your debts as low as possible. Listen to the news and keep up with how the economy is doing. Keep this up for at least until January 2010.
