I worked in engineering and project design and a whole bunch of other areas as our facility was small and multi-tasking was absolutely necessary. I have a Bachelor's degree. I was never written up, never disciplined for anything, never late, never tardy, never made waves, totally none confrontational. But during a layoff I was let go after ten years of service while folks with HS diplomas and far less time at Cat were retained. I started out on the floor before moving up. I was still punching a clock even though I had a desk job. Why couldn't this company simply allow me to back up, return to the floor as a machine operator? If I had been a problem employee then I wouldn't be writing but I was a good employee. I was totally blown away by this companies lack of loyalty towards long time employees. They constantly speeched us on ethics and company loyalty but they screw you over the very first chance they get. Remaining employees are worried. Another layoff just occurred, 01-20-2010. These employees are scrambling to attend school, find other employment in the area before the company does it to them.
