treat employees poorly

This is not the place to work if you want to be treated fairly. They are only interested in the bottom line. They are hurting themselves because people are very disaffected. Trying to leve as soon as possible

Covance is not what they want their client and patients to think they are. The company and most of the staff are so messed up, they hire you and make you think this company is the best place to work yet the staff is off at least once a week every week and not one word is said to them about their attendance, they keep the worthless people and let the hard working, dependable, honest people go. It will catch up to them sooner or later just watch and see.

Q2 Performance consequences

Now comes the hiring freeze. And senior management asking all to come with suggestions to save money....how about getting rid of some middle management, some of the useless VPs hired this and last year, and getting some real support to the teams performing the actual work so that our quality failures don't drive the company out of business before the end of the year.

The performance review goals for the year, due in March, just came out. Then management asked the employees to finish in 5 days. Meanwhile, hiring freeze on coordination team members make life awful with no back up and quality failures due to staff stretched to the limit and no support. Meanwhile, how many VPs were added in the past year? Astounding lack of vision or concept of how work is actually done well.

This is so common everywhere. The place I was working before my layoff, we had been through a layoff round already which put extra burden on the employees while the management did hiring freeze although knowing the problem

The Office

If you eve wondered what it was like to work at "the Office" this is it. Covance leaves little to the imagination, and at times it is comical to work here. It is highly bureacratic, people dont get recognised for there real work. To get a head you need to befriend upper managerment ( who incidentally is stuck up -- if you want to work at a place where people can sit for two hur with you in trainin and not recognise you down the hall an hour later, this is the enviroment). Its about who you know and who your married to -- oh, there is a high level of nepotisim here. There is little diversity of ideas here because if you think outside the box , it may ruin you , unless you are married or friends with someone in high places. As far as ethnic diversity, you can visiliby see the diversity, but for a minority to move up the ranks , they have drawn blood.

Well said, I agree completely. It's across departments and sites as well.

DO NOT WORK HERE! I don't care what they say or what they offer. You will thank your lucky stars that you did not get drawn in.

It's not that bad working here. If you are equipped with potential and have done well in past. you have chances of being promoted

If you are willing to step on the throat of your co-workers
about 4 months ago

If you are willing to step on the throat of your co-workers to get ahead, this company is for you. For me, it was not worth the benefits, training, and the pay to deal with incompetent coworkers and management. Also if you are willing to completely give up your family obligations to get ahead this is also a great place. You can also join a clique just like in high school and pick on other people for fun. Forget work its all about negative networking. Try to accomplish something positive in the work place and everyone will throw up road blocks because they didn't think of it first.

Its amazing . Imagine a boss who just sits in the office gossiping and looking for negativiely pointless reasons to have a chat with a worker up to their neck in REAL work. Their main contribution? Forwarding the emails or work detail from other departments and customers already accessable to the people doing the work and coming up with "ideas" . We dont need middlemen to press "send" on an email we already have! Probably on twice as much as the people doing the real work. Its a waste of money hiring slackers who will do anything to cover their backs making themselves look busy. On a greater level if you account for one of these coffee drinking walkers on every site then thats about 50 X $80,000 per year wasted right there , nearly half a million dollars a year wasted on wasters and I'm sure there will be more than just one on every site. Millions wasted. Its time the top chiefs asked their managers to lay out in detail the ACTUAL physical solid work they do, never mind "meetings". They are going to contribute to the loss of the more productive cheaper workers and it will get worse. Its not rocket science. GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND. They are bleeding the company dry.

A year of new execs, hiring freeze, lay offs
about 4 months ago

We just had 200 people laid off, some supervisors. We've had big quality failures detailed by clients, and while higher execs were hired there has been a hiring freeze on coordination support, the highest turnover positions. Now they wonder why are we having quality failures..gee, could it be the increased workload on a few and no acknowlegdement that not replacing entry level employees is a fatal flaw of all top heavy companies? At every turn, they cut timelines by removing QC steps and review. Reports of integrated studies are parted out internally, with futile attempts at integration. The clinical study reports are pieces, with the only review of the report in it's entirety by the sponsor. Where is the oversight needed by these new execs, just to lay off and pinch the groups already strapped, missing the big issues entirely?

Corporate Hell

Covance is everything you would expect from a mega corporation. "Sit down. shut up. don't think for yourself. fit in to our culture. be part of the cool kid clique to move up. step on co-workers necks to get ahead. put a positive stepford-esque spin on everything the company does (even when it is shady). install big brother cameras everywhere. (they are watching/its not for safety reasons as implied!)" If you enjoy this environment in a workplace this job is for you. I brought some very serious workplace concerns to the attention of managers and HR. I resigned shortly thereafter due to a managerial and co-worker backlash. There are other good companies out there! Find them! I did, it is easy to get bogged down by the negativity of this company. I am now happy, healthy, productive in my workplace, and I get to now see my family every night!
