Deere rifs

The company has suspended promotions and raises for some time, and there is a hiring freeze, on top of all layoffs in the latter part of last year. Deere has moved to a High Deductible Healthcare Plan, with deductibles over $2000. We see lack of reward in the interim due to current economic conditions. Continued layoffs and reduced benefits will hurt the company even more in the long term.

Deere Layoffs?

Management here rules by fear, with no people skills or leadership abilities. Never knowing if you are going to be around next week regardless of how you are performing. Management is incented to increase productivity every year and the fasted way to increase productivity is to reduce staff. It is not easy to find someone working in a management spot for more than 1 year because he either leaves or is laid off. Layoffs are constantly coming and we too are also becoming victim of it.

Thundering economy

Currently - market conditions are making it very stressful to work here plus Deere is losing ground. Like all other companies in the market, it is also compelled to reduce its staff to cover up expenses. The current time is coming heavy on US workers as the economy threatens US market. I don't know how long I am here to work.

The company had previously estimated a pretax expense of $50 million for the program.

Deere & Co. said Tuesday it will temporarily lay off most production workers at an Iowa plant as the global economic crisis weakens demand for its products.

The world's largest maker of farm machinery said 494 workers at its John Deere Ottumwa Works will be laid off indefinitely starting June 29. The factory's remaining 195 workers will be laid off periodically over the next several months, Deere said.

The Moline, Illinois-based company has coped with diminishing demand in recent months as the sagging world economy and lower commodity prices undermine demand for its products. In May, Deere reported a 38 percent decline in quarterly profit as farmers and other customers cut spending on tractors, mowers and construction equipment. It also slashed its profit forecast. more...
