Bye, bye GM -- blue collor workers are better off than us white color .. at least some one is looking out for them

After an experience of 7 years, I was axed last month with a so called commitment from my manager to be called back. I was not happy with this decision but had to follow instructions. I was so down with it that everybody noticed my hanging face and realized the situation. I wish I would be called back to work there again as I really enjoyed my 7 years stay with folks there.

There are massive cuts coming in the salary ranks. Those that are left will be taking significant pay cuts. It is also said that the company is going to close 5 more factories in US with 47000 employees' layoffs. This is in my opinion the worst ever condition our company has been through. We are not happy with this decision but can't help except watching our backs.

Rumors are that layoff packages for the senior managers are pretty good whereas middle and lower staff are being shafted. What do you expect -- the ones that don't have a union contract and are not big shots are the ones who are f*****d the most

Rumor has it that management plans to have a big layoff occurring soon among the white color staff. There are enough "bad eggs" to make working at GM frustrating and everybody says they are not going to get laid off. A friend in my department says that many good people have got an axe in the past and General Motors staff types are not an exception. Also, they may reduce the compensations offered and would restore it once recession is over but now they have started laying off.
