Easy to be laid off than to sustain your job
1 month ago
Jeld-Wen is still struggling with the economic downturn. One day you would be working in a team on meeting a certain deadline, the next day you hear that you are no more.
The recession has hit the industry hard and even the Jeld-Wen is striving to recover faster than competitors, it's still going to be a while before things are back to normal.

They wouldn't need to lay off so many people if they brought a few of their overseas company's back to the states.

Things are not getting better, they are getting worse.Jeld Wen should get into the tent window business. When this depression hits hard millions will be living in tent cities all over America. Many more Jeld Wen factories will close and thousands will lose their jobs.

miini heart attack
Just like Dick Cheney I think I've had a few mini heart attacks.I've been laid off a long time and have not found a job.I'm very streesed out.I may lose everything i worked so hard for.The layoff was unfair,i got more to lose than some high school graduate with just a few weeks on the job.

The company has no care about those whom are laid off, nor are they organized enough to pro-actively manage layoffs to minimize the pain associated with those layoffs, either to the company or to those affected.

telonu layoff tracker
According to the telonu layoff tracker the 274 people on the so called 6 month layoff recall were terminated in May.I think Jeld Wen management should get off the dope and get back to Earth to reality. It use to be they had temporary layoffs so the their working employees could get a 40 hour paycheck. Now they have temporary layoffs and they work their employees into the ground so they can get them out on a 32 hour paycheck. The big shots on the top want to be making the big money ,even during
the bad times. They don't share the pain with their employees. They have a big sense of entitlement like the greedy b*stards on wallstreet ,like Goldman Sachs.Wallstreet is rallying like the good times are coming back. They are not,it's going to get a worse.Soon wallstreet is going to have to take a big cut in their standard of living like the working middle class poor.Get your money out of stocks, the second phase of the crash is coming.

I agree, they are greedy and don't give a crap about the hourly employee. They refer to us as "grunts", to them we are not people, just a number. Remember if you work for Jeld-Wen, it's not how hard you work, it's how well you suck up to the incompetant floor surpervisers who just happen to be best buddies with the general manager. Excellent managers were "layed off" and the general managers "good buddies" (clueless as they may be) were able to move up in management. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!

management gets special treatment
There is a manager at the at Jeld Wen that got kicked out of a department because he could'nt get a decent number of windows out.He always seemed to have this blank look on his face as he scratched his beard , trying to figure out how to get production out faster. They put him in a different department because he was not motivated enough to get a decent amount of windows out.
Now you see him walking around the factory. He spends more time in other departments than his own. When the factory went to one shift he was kept on second shift, even though there was little production on that shift.Management on second shift ddid'nt lose their jobs like the employees.
.They terminate the employees, but keep management, even if you have bad breath! You can smell foul breath from 10 feet away!

future is bleak in housing industry
How can you trust a company like Jeld Wen that left their employees on recall in limbo for 9 months and not one employee got called back.I predict all the window & door factories will suffer even worse sales in 2010.I predict some of those suckasses will get mando layoff at Jeld Wen.
The people running the show are pretty spineless. They don't have enough balls to tell there employees they have no hope at all of ever getting their job back. Many employees are angry at Jeld Wen.They have price increases, when at the same time commodity prices like wood and metals went down.I predict Jeld Wen will get rid of their golf tounaments, just like Goldman Sacks decided to decrease their bonuses.
