Corporate

The company is a joke. I see Michaels Stores going out of business in the near future. We are so understaffed that customers get fed up and leave before checking out or even finding what they want and STILL the manager cuts hours because he gets in trouble for payroll. Meanwhile, we got new computers and new rules and money spent on senseless crap. For example, the partition between the registers and the store. It's like Fry's just way less thought went into it. The idea is for customers to form one line and wait for the next available register. The reality is that we can't see the store or how many people are in line for the register. There should be a sign on it "No one can see you. Please- Help yourself." Bet the money from that wall could have paid an extra cashier for that 15 person line we had going yesterday. Thanks corporate.

I love working at Michaels. I started when I was eighteen and I've been here for about one and a half years. My manager is very encouraging and warm to everyone, although not without his faults, but I don't think those should be held against him. He has given me as well as other associates so much opportunity to move up; at the moment I am very close to becoming a department manager, and not many managers would take a second look at a teenager in her first job. My manager is also incredibly understanding and communicative; he tries to work with associates who are going through a tough time to make work less stressful on them.
The problems I have with working here come from corporate. I want to know their reasoning behind their policies such as one coupon per customer. They should know that customers are just going to keep going through the line over and over to use every single one of their coupons, making that policy worthless except to aggravate customers to the point where they don't want to return. You can imagine the toll this takes on our cashiers who are forced to deal with implementing the policy at the stake of their own jobs.
Also, we seriously need new equipment, especially cash registers and RF guns. Our registers and ATM swipe things are pathetically slow and customers constantly complain about them, not to mention how filthy they look. I don't know how things are going at corporate, but it doesn't seem like they do much listening to the problems happening in-store. I haven't seen changes to these difficulties or others since I've been working here.

Horrible Company
The company is lost and confused. Taking down fixtures and moving them from one place to another. This is a everyday thing and poor employees at the bottom are so confused with all this BS. Corporate people needs to spend some time in the stores to see all the BS. Dont want to work here because their is no training. They dont know what that means.

I am very disappointed in this company. I have been here for two years.
I have seen tons of people come and go.
Training is horrible for new employees....Goals are hard to attain...
Stress is unreal...I have seen employees get abused by managers and the worst is that HR and others permit this. Its a horrible place to work!
They really should be sued!

Coupons

I find it terrible to shop in your store, you have your 40 and 50 percent coupons and you only allow one coupon per customer, well I think that stinks big time, your losing out because people will go over to AC Moore and use them which is what I have been doing. If you can't take at least 3 per customer then the hell with your store, which does not seem to be doing all that great. (Danvers Store.)
You need to change your policy and just maybe you will do a little bit better then AC Moore.
I know lots of people that feel the same way, and are not happy with your store at all.

No offense, but what sense does that even make? If you owned a business, how would you feel if people only came into your store to demand 40 or 50% off everything in YOUR store? And to make matters worse, then turn around and publicly bash you for not giving them everything in your store for half price? How is it even possible to make any money that way? That's just ridiculous, and the only people that don't see this are people looking for a hand out. I get so tired of people complaining because they expect people to give, give give.

No Work and Life balance
The corporate big wigs believe that they recognize what is best for all stores, and they do not easily or readily react to ideas of change (for the better) from the lower employees. The whole company is really very awkward: they are always trying to reinvent the wheel, so nothing works. There is really nothing between "worker" and "manager". They want to be unique, but the result is a very amateurish company. There is also all the work/live balance problems of retail, which is relatively unavoidable.
