Customer service - GET IT RIGHT

I had auto pay set up. What I did not know was that even if you pay ahead of time they will still pull the money owed from your account. I had switched our auto debit info to a NEW account but Reliant went ahead & drafted the old one. That put my old account into the hole, costing me some banking fees & the inability to close the old account.

I called immediately to get a refund. At first I was told that they could not refund it electronically but then the woman said that since the amount was over a certain amount ($100 or $150..somewhere in there), she believed that they COULD refund it electronically but double-checked with a supervisor. She came back a moment later and said that that was correct & supposedly set up an electronic refund. 1 or 2 days later I saw no notice of any sort of pending transaction in the old bank account, so I called back to check. The person I spoke w/ at that time told me that I had to wait up to 10 business days to receive the check. Yes. The check. So I repeated what happened the day prior & he said he had no idea why the rep would have told me such a thing, even AFTER I mentioned that she had spoken with a supervisor. In fact, he repeated several times that that is not how they do things.

Forward one week. I get my statement & it showed that I owed a small amount compared to what I normally pay. I call. The smooth talker assured me that that was just the statement, since it wasn't due for a while that the full amount would be refunded, not just the credit.

Today the check came. Amount refunded? The credit. Spoke w/ CS and was told there's nothing they could do. Never mind that my bill is due mid-month. Then I get a supervisor. I had been shouting at the phone, and I NEVER shout over the phone. The kicker? I get to call my bank and tell them that it was an unauthorized transaction and of COURSE if Reliant "accidentally" charges me a fee for it, then I have to call to get that money back.

Getting shafted

I received two monthly bills that were estimates and not actual meter reads and Reliant estimated my year-over-year usage at double and triple the kwatt hrs of the previous year, respectively, for August and September. To make it worse, the meter reading company which Reliant contracts with switched my meter out mid-August, but still took estimates, despite physically changing it out. Customer service couldn't tell me why a meter would get changed out and still be estimated, and told me I could check the meter myself to verify the accuracy of the estimate. I informed them that would be somewhat difficult given a meter has been replaced.
