I feel for you. Alas SAIC isn't any different then any body shop. Imagine this, they used to do the same when they were "employee owned" company - just the few "employees" were the beneficiaries. Now what incentive do they have to do any different when they are a for profit company?

As for there being a law against this sort of thing. It would be difficult to get anything like this passed in current climate. The best you can do is go in eyes wide open and depending on the state you are in, but here in California this is an "at will" employment law state. Which essentially means both sides of the employee/employer are "at will" to break their side of the bargain when ever they feel like.

So my advice is don't be too wedded and loyal to SAIC or any other employer, the moment you find something better for you move on giving the employer least amount of time that law allows you. If you are being paid weekly then that is 1 weeks notice, and if you are exempt and paid bi-weekly then its 2 weeks. You have no more obligation then this.

SAIC hired me in March 2010. I uprooted my family and just got settled into our new place when they turned around and laid me off at the end of May. Unbelievable.

What they've done should be illegal.
