I joined the company when it was still Burroughs - prior to the merger with Sperry - and continued after it became Unisys, then left in 1991. Blumenthal ,or whatever the name of the top dog back then, had his entire office enclosed in bullet-proof glass - out of fear that some associate would walk in with guns blasting. It was so de-moralizing to work there that the recruiter who brought me in called a few weeks later (after he got his $$$ most likely) and apologized for getting me hired in that hell-hole.

Sorry to hear it has NOT changed.

Our company's financial performance, especially in the stick market, is quite simply, poor. Whenever times are tough the company tries to "save its way to success" by cutting staff or doing ridiculous things like placing purchasing moratoriums on office supplies (seriously). On many projects there is an unwritten assumption that the company owns your time well beyond the 40 hours a week that they are paying you for. The overall size of the company can sometimes be daunting in terms of determining where you fit in and how you contribute to the overall bottom line.

I worked for Unisys for about 4 years. I was laid off last year along with many others. It is my opinion that the layoffs were primarily driven by salary only and performance had almost nothing to do with their decisions. The work at Unisys was fine, but the environment was pretty bad. The constant layoffs at Unisys made working there very stressful as you never knew day to day if you would still have a job. Glad I am out of there.
