Unisys is closing the Austin MSC and laying off employees.

Just got notified that my job would be one of MANY to go when one of our divisions major contracts goes away in Nov. Yeah, I got 90-days notice, with assurances by the same director who told me that he's actively seeking elsewhere in the co. on my behalf, and not everyone got that deal.

Contract losses happen, and I see this layoff as the reality of those losses. But our (now former) Bus. Dev. guy was far beyond sub-par, even though he called himself an "executive". Clearly not suited for the job, which ain't necessarily his fault, but at the end of the day his incompetence meant a layoff for me and several others, because no new business got generated in time.

The guy who alerted me ALSO alerted the whole team when we first got wind of maybe losing the contract, last year. Very up front, no BS to the team, and also urged us to stick around in case the new guys want to hire from the incumbent. Class move all around on his part.

I've encountered rampant "Learned Helplessness" here, and some very hard-headed professionals trying to turn that culture around, with mixed results. Whatever this is worth, they've done right and ethical by me.

At the end of the day, it's naive to assume a company will look out for you, so the fact that the boss's boss is doing so is a welcome surprise. I could say I earned that help, but more to the point, the director said it for me.
