I have been at the University of Wyoming for almost a year now and am already a Sophomore studying Elementary Education. This school has awesome points and terrible points. The Education department is wonderful, the specifically education classes are so interesting and fun which really makes it worth dealing with the horrible weather that Laramie can have. The general classes kind of suck, geography was the worst class I have ever taken in my life and I have never had a teacher that bases their entire class of "facts" from wikipedia until last semester. I have heard that math and science majors have a rough time because most of their basic classes are taught by graduate students that are usually foreign with heavy accents. But FIGs (freshman interest groups) put you on the same floors with people in your classes which really helps with study groups and such. The dorms aren't terrible, although not worth how much they charge you, but the food at Washakie is terrible. It looks great and even tastes alright at first, but as the year progresses, the food worsens and starts to make you really sick every time you eat it. One of the best things about UW is the sporting events and availability of equipment and such. They really really really want their students to show support for their teams at every possibility, so they offer most events free to students or very cheap (which just means that we pay for it in our student fees instead of being charged at the event). We are given free access to Half Acre, a fully equipped gym that is very nice and almost always being used by students.
I am frustrated that they are raising tuition rates just because unlike many students, I am paying for school out of my own pocket and work my ass off to get enough as it is. I also realize, though, that every few years, there needs to be an increase in our tuitions so they can pay the teachers better and provide more towards our learning experiences.
